Housing - Additions and Alterations

Poolscape is a pool and outdoor living project that explores threshold via the creation of an inhabited verandah space and lively stairway connection between an upper level living and ground level fun times.
Situated on a north facing sloping site with intense suburban features but with opportunities to access distant green vistas. This project was an opportunity to engage better with the view and create a threshold space that responds to the Auckland condition – blistering sun and big rain while also creating a physical and visual link down to the 'quarry like' deep pool.
"This well-conceived project is the renovation of an existing home to cater to the needs of a growing family. The substantial north-facing verandah extends the living areas of the upper levels with a sophisticated all-weather operable envelope providing both sunshade and protection from the wind and rain of inclement weather. These elevated outdoor living areas connect to the lower-level and landscaped pool areas with an exquisite external stair which clearly illustrates the architect’s expertise in innovative detailing and managing the construction execution."

"Lloyd Hartley developed several concepts answering our varying briefs as we worked through what we wanted to achieve with our 1930’s bungalow. The end result is a fantastic solution that provides a lot of amenity for our family and many visitors.
Mike assembled a great team of consultants to assist in the process and his attention to detail with design co-ordination resulted in very few (if any) clashes on site during the build phase."
